How to Appeal a Walmart Seller Account Suspension: Step-by-Step Guide

Max Semion has spent the past several years working inside Amazon FBA and multi-marketplace operations — auditing accounts, untangling suspensions, and building the kind of monitoring systems that catch a problem before it becomes a deactivation notice. He writes about what actually moves the needle for sellers, not theory.

Quick Answer

Yes, in many cases you can appeal a Walmart seller account suspension. Per Walmart Marketplace Learn, you open Seller Center, click Help, and submit a business plan of action that explains the violation and the steps you took to fix it, plus any documents Walmart asks for. Walmart gives no review time and does not guarantee reinstatement. A termination cannot be appealed: Walmart says appeals "will not be granted."

A Walmart suspension takes your listings offline, restricts Seller Center, and puts payments on hold. How you respond in the first appeal matters, because a weak or contradictory appeal is hard to undo.

This guide covers who can appeal, the exact steps in Seller Center, what a plan of action needs, a worked example, how long to expect, and the mistakes that get appeals denied. We run Walmart Marketplace and WFS accounts, so we say clearly what is Walmart's official process, what outside advisers say, and what is our own advice.

Can You Appeal a Walmart Seller Account Suspension?

Often yes. Walmart lets sellers appeal a suppression or a suspension, mainly when the problem is missing the Seller Performance Standards. Walmart does not accept appeals for terminated accounts and doesn't have to give a reason. Whether your case is appealable is stated in your notice: Walmart says the email includes details about your appeal eligibility.

What Happens to Your Account and Money While Suspended?

While suspended, your listings become non-transactable and non-discoverable on Walmart.com, Seller Center access is restricted, and payments are placed on hold. Walmart can also terminate accounts that stay suspended "beyond a reasonable threshold" without a successful appeal, and it doesn't define that threshold. That's why acting quickly and accurately matters.

  • Seller-fulfilled and Walmart-fulfilled (WFS) listings both stop selling and drop out of search.
  • Your access to Seller Center is restricted.
  • Payments are put on hold.
  • Walmart notifies you through Seller Center and by email, and you can't unsubscribe from those notices.

What to Do Before You Appeal (5 Steps)

Before you write anything, find and fix the cause. Walmart's guide asks you to review your metrics and describe the corrective steps you're taking, so the strongest appeals describe fixes that are already working. The five steps below are our advice, not Walmart policy.

  1. Read the notice in Seller Center and in your email. Save screenshots, case numbers and dates.
  2. Open your Performance page and see which standards you missed. Our guide to Walmart seller performance standards lists all eight limits and what each one measures.
  3. Find the root cause, not just the symptom — for example, a supplier that ships late, or inventory that is oversold on other channels.
  4. Stop the cause now. Pause risky listings or fix the process, so it's already working before you write.
  5. Gather evidence: current warehouse photos, supplier or distributor invoices less than two months old, carrier tracking reports, and intellectual property documents if relevant.

Do not open a new Walmart account to get around a suspension. Third-party advisers warn that linked accounts can be deactivated too.

How to Appeal a Walmart Suspension, Step by Step

Walmart's process for a suspension runs through the Help button in Seller Center; a suppression is appealed from the warning banner on the Performance page instead. Here's the full sequence, with Walmart's official steps and our advice marked separately.

  1. Sign in to Seller Center. Walmart's appeal steps all start there.
  2. Open the Performance page and review the standards you missed.
  3. Click Help in the menu bar and follow the steps to submit your plan. For a suppression, select "Start appeal" on the banner instead.
  4. Write your plan of action using the structure in the next section.
  5. Attach the evidence Walmart asks for. Walmart says failing to provide requested documents may result in the denial of your appeal.
  6. Submit once and keep one case thread (our advice).
  7. Wait for Walmart's response. If you need to follow up, do it in the same thread rather than opening a new case (third-party advice).

What to Put in Your Walmart Plan of Action

Walmart's guide asks for a business plan of action that describes the violation and the steps you'll take to fix it — plus the steps you've taken to prevent further violations, if you broke the Marketplace Retailer Agreement. Walmart doesn't publish a template. This is the structure we use:

  1. Summary — 2–3 sentences: what happened, and which standard or policy it affected.
  2. Root cause — specific orders, suppliers, carriers and dates.
  3. Corrective actions already done — each with its date.
  4. Prevention — the controls you've put in place, who owns them, and how you'll monitor them weekly.
  5. Evidence — invoices under two months old, tracking reports, photos.

Do be specific, factual and short. Don't blame others, dispute the metrics, or promise things you can't deliver.

Illustrative Plan of Action Example (not a real account)

Illustrative example with placeholders. Do not copy it word for word — Walmart reviewers see many similar letters, so tie yours to your own orders.

Summary: Between [date] and [date], our account missed Walmart's late shipment rate and valid tracking rate standards. [X orders] shipped after the Expected Ship Date, and [X orders] were uploaded without valid tracking.

Root cause: [Supplier] delayed restocks of [SKU], and our team uploaded tracking numbers before the carrier scanned the labels.

Corrective actions: On [date] we moved [SKU] to [backup supplier], raised our handling time to [X days], and changed our process so tracking is uploaded only after the first carrier scan.

Prevention: [Name] reviews the Performance page every [day] and checks unscanned labels daily.

Evidence: [Supplier invoices dated within two months], [carrier scan report].

How Long Does a Walmart Appeal Take?

Walmart does not publish a response time. Its guide says appeals are "handled and responded to in the order in which they're received." One seller-law firm reports that Walmart often responds in about 3 to 7 business days, with complex Trust & Safety cases taking longer — but that's the firm's experience, not an official number.

  • Don't open duplicate cases; the same firm says they tend to slow review rather than speed it up.
  • Don't send updates that contradict your first submission.
  • Keep working on the fix while you wait.

Common Mistakes That Get Walmart Appeals Denied

Walmart itself names one cause of denial: missing documents. The rest of this list comes from a seller-law firm's guidance, labelled as such, because Walmart doesn't publish a list of reasons it rejects appeals.

  • Missing documents (Walmart): failing to provide requested documents may result in the denial of your appeal.
  • Disputing the metrics instead of explaining and fixing them (third-party): an appeal that opens by arguing the numbers reads as a seller who hasn't accepted the problem.
  • Copy-paste template letters (third-party): generic templates are a common reason appeals are denied.
  • Blaming a carrier, supplier or employee without showing the system gap (third-party): if a carrier really caused a data error, show it with order-level evidence later in the submission, not as the opening argument.
  • A second message that contradicts the first (third-party): it reads as a credibility problem rather than a correction.
  • Opening duplicate cases (third-party): it tends to slow the review.
  • Opening a new account to get around the suspension (third-party): the new account is often linked and deactivated.

Can You Appeal a Walmart Seller Account Termination?

Walmart says no: it isn't required to give a reason for a termination, and "appeals will not be granted." Some seller-law firms say a termination is "not always final" when a seller presents new, material information — but that's their claim, not Walmart policy, and nothing about it is guaranteed.

What to do if you're terminated (not legal advice):

  • Keep records: notices, case numbers, order data and correspondence.
  • Check the Marketplace Retailer Agreement for the terms that apply to held payouts.
  • Consider qualified legal advice if significant funds are held.
  • Don't open a new account.

For what termination does to your listings and Seller Center access, see our Walmart account status guide.

After Reinstatement: How to Avoid Another Suspension

Reinstatement fixes the account, not the process that caused the suspension. Submitting an appeal also means agreeing to follow Walmart's Seller Performance Standards and retailer policies from then on, so keep the metrics that triggered it well inside their limits.

  • Keep every standard in range — see Walmart's eight seller performance standards and the 10-minute weekly check in that guide.
  • Sync inventory across every channel you sell on.
  • Set a response-time rule for customer inquiries, with a backup person.

A reinstated account with metrics still near the limit can be flagged again, so fix the process, not just the paperwork. Amazon has its own version of this — see how to avoid an Amazon seller account suspension.

Our Take

On accounts we manage, most Walmart problems trace back to inventory sync and shipping handoffs. We would rather fix those before an appeal than write a better appeal — that's the day-to-day work of our Walmart WFS Expansion service, and the rest of our Walmart Marketplace guides cover the channel in more depth. If you want a second pair of eyes on your plan of action, message us on WhatsApp.

The Bottom Line

Confirm your status, find and fix the root cause, and submit one factual plan of action with the right documents. Keep one case thread, don't open a new account, and keep your metrics healthy once you're back.
